some wishful thinking there I think hehehe

you know, my dad worked on the blackbird, and we never knew until YEARS later when it was all declassified. They used to deny it even existed for the longest time. Guess he earned that top secret clearance...

So he worked in the Lockheed Skunkworks eh?

That's easily my favorite airplane of all time!

Its cool to have a plane that flies so high and so fast that they just fly over, and if they're detected by the time they scramble fighters or something its already too late. I know they have the stealth stuff now, but you'd think there'd still be an application for that.

It was Lockheed for awhile. He originally worked for Singer LINK flight simulation, then it kept being bought out or acquired by somebody else every little while. For awhile it was owned by some Canadian company, but since they did military contracts and they were a foreign country, the bosses weren't allowed to know that they were working on, which seems sort of strange. (Wish I had that--"what am I doing? Sorry, sir, but that's on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know...")

Anyway, I lost track of what the different companies were over the last few years. Eventually they were acquired by some company that kept doing layoffs, and he survived right up until the end when they said the remaining people had to move to TX, or they could take a severance package. He didn't want to move to TX, so he took the layoff. My uncle went to the expense of selling the house and moving to TX. A few months later they laid all those people off. Big business sucks.

So now my poor day who worked on top secret projects for like 30 years is basically out of work and doing odd jobs and such, and I'm not really sure if they raided retirement or what and what he's going to do. Pretty sucky.

If his clearance is still active, it seems like he could get something in the DoD world. That sucks!

Top secret clearence is a pain in the ass to get. I was going to say more, but... no.

Mr.Dave
That plane is sitting in a museum about 5 miles from here! :D
