View Thread: Car names that actually mean something else!!

Cordoba
I had to laugh when I read this!! Apparently GM was going to call the new Buick Regal replacment, a Buick LaCrosse. Seem's harmless enough, right?? Well, in French speaking Quebec, Canada, it actually means a slangword for ...... masturbation!!! Ooop's!! So, now GM is on the look out for a new name when the car goes on sale in Canada!!

Then there is the Mitsubishi Pajero SUV. In Spain, Pajero mean's "wanker"!! So, that could explain why in Europe and the UK, the Pajero is called a Mitsubishi Shogun. Still, in Australia we have always used "Pajero" and in North America it's called a Mitsubishi Montero.

Before Volkswagen used the name Bora for it's Golf sized sedan, the car was called Vento, Jetta in other market's. Apparently it ment, passing of wind!! I'm not sure which language the meaning comes from though??

Anyone know of any other's??

Haha!! I forgot about that one!! Mazda has just released a car called a Mazda Laputa (a rebadged Holden Cruze/Suzuki Ignis). Laputa, apparently mean's a woman that definitley does "go" in Spanish!!
