Look at the third engine choice, then look at the manual transmission option.

:hitit:

300 torque from a turbo DOHC inline 5....and a six speed....? In a "mini truck"?

It also says "expect an interior like the Trailblazer's", but I've seen the interior photos elsewhere and they look nothing like a Trailblazer. More like the interior of a Mitsubishi Lancer....

That would be really really sweet.

If they make a "Colorado Extreme" only with the turbo 5cl...... The Syclone is back?

Hopefull 300 tq would be accompanied by 300hp.

Didn't the 4.3 have like 280 tq? It was dog slow though.

The 4.3L V6 still used in the S-10 and Blazer (still being made) makes 250 torque naturally aspirated, 23 mpg HWY on regular.

Not sure what the Syclone numbers were.

The Turbo as listed has lower horsepower numbers - but I guess that's to be expected from a truck engine. Still it beats by far the supercharged V6 competition.

I don't think any Chevy fans will complain. They get a turbo and a six speed in an all new "mini" truck -- the kind of stuff they've been dreaming about for years.

This turbo will also serve to keep quiet the people who'd rather see a "V6" badge on the vehicle for the sake of tradition - and that slight lack of torque when the naturally aspirated I-5 is compared to the 4.3L V6.

But then they can always go out and buy an S-10. Those will probably still be made until the summer of 2005 while the Colorado production ramps up.

I dunno though. I tried to search and couldn't find anything else about a rumored turbo I-5 for the Colorado.

And all the articles on that website only mentioned 2 engines.... 175hp 4cl and 220hp I-5. No turbo.

So, we'll see I guess.

I haven't heard of any I-5 on this side of the pond turbo or NA that aren't diesel engines in a while. I know Audi had a turbo 5 in a couple of their cars (older S4, S6) and volvo had a turbo 5 in a few of theirs, but I didn't think that any domestic company built inline 5's

You can see mentions of this engine in the Bel Air concept a year or two back, but I agree, this is something I'll have to see to believe. But if anybody would leak it on accident, it would be on a Union website like that one above.

The Saab 9-7 SUV would go much better with a Turbo I-5 than an I-6 - at least for the image.

Honda made one too.
