After years of teasing us with design studies of various conceptual Bugatti vehicles, Bugatti, under the ownership of Volkswagen has issued the first official photos of the Veyron model. The 1001hp quad-turbo 16-cylinder sports car will go on sale later this year for an undisclosed amount of money rumored to be over $650,000.

Under the direction of former VWAG boss Dr. Ferdinand Piech, the new Bugatti sports car had to have more than 1000hp and a return to a 16-cylinder powerplant. What resulted was two W8 engines mated end to end and forcefed by a total of 4 turbochargers to produce exactly 1001hp DIN horsepower. The new 16-cylinder Veyron should reach a top speed of more than 400 km/h (248 mph) and accelerate from 0 to 300 km/h (0-186 mph) in under 14 seconds. That top speed incidentally is electronically limited because of the tires, which themselves are custom made for Bugatti and rated to 400 km/h.

As on Formula 1 and Le Mans racing cars, the load-bearing chassis of the Buagatti Veyron is reinforced with carbon fibre for maximum strength and rigidity as well as minimum weight. The outer skin of the body is of mixed aluminium and carbon-fibre construction. The W16 turbocharged engine, which has dry sump lubrication and four continuously variable camshafts, surpasses the power output of current Formula 1 engines. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a paddle-shift seven-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) with twin clutches.

The Veyron's special tires utilize the new Pax system developed by Michelin. These special high-speed tires have a pressure monitoring system and run-flat capability, so that safe handling is maintained and the car can be driven for more than 200 kilometres (124 miles) in the event of pressure loss.

The Bugatti Veyron will likely take its place in supercar history and carry the legend of Ettore Bugatti into a new modern Bugatti roadcar.

im not quite aware of that history... can u please tell me what are u talking about RB???

the E110 or whatever that thing was called. it was a totally stunning car, trully a car in it's own class a few tiers above anything else. the only problem was all the cool gadgets, like 4 turbos for zero turbo lag and insane power, it ran too hot, was to costly to fix and just wasn't worth it to alot of people.

I just hope this bugatti doesn't have the same future

0-300km/h in <14 seconds?

holy shit thats fast the Veilside R1 Drag car only did it in 13.27 and thats purpose built. 14 seconds is amazing for a standard car

Fantastic automobile! Two W8 engines and 4 Turbochargers....unreal.

i arent too sure about its handling though. i hear theyre having some serious problems keeping the thing on the ground at high speed. theyve supposedly been putting so much effort into that that theyve hardly started working on its handling yet.

Carlos Carrera
i believe u, cause i dont see anything aerodinamic on that thing.
