View Thread: oh christ. it's mystery civic time once again.

two year ago I was walking out of an ice cream store, minding my own business when I saw a boring looking black civic coupe(96 ish) spin it's rear tires from a spot light. it scampered off into the night never to be seen by my eyes again. well this morning, in an attempt to escape the terrible heat wave going on right now. I was out driving around with my buddy dave in his Mazdaspeed protege when a car pulled up next to us and revved. the car was nothing unusual. just a black mid 90's civic with limo tint and an ugly gravelly exhuast note. dave revved back and then the civic revved again. we could both tell somthing was up, the civic had the wierdest engine sounds ever, it was sporting an engine swap, becuase there was alot more than a D15 going on under that hood.

we went and he went. but by the time we got going, he was mostly gone. zipping off into the night with his RWD civic. I have no idea how it's been done, but I know three things. it is quick(low 13's I would guess) and it is driven by some one who smokes(the car pulled out of a smokers outlet before it pulled up next to us. it also is sporting some kind of engine swap,I would suspect a rear mounted Bseires or H22a, but then again thats only speculation. the car has WY plates on it, despite the plates however I have heard mention of it's appearance in south west nebraska and in southern CO. quite a few people have seen the black RWD civic. anybody here ever incountered it?

what do your supra and fd run in the 1/4? you might come up against it in those one day.

He'd be on a hell of a road trip if I had seen him over here :D

That sounds great though! I love RWD conversions and if it was RWD than most likely it was a rear mount as well. That's a heck of a weight on the rear but it makes for a good drag car.

I know a guy who converted a Millenia of all things to RWD using RX7 components and had a tuned 13B in it. The exterior was bone stock. He burned many unsuspecting people.

My Rx-7 runs mid 11's on street tires. my supra is about a second behind that with some ugly launches. I could take him, but the two times I have seen it I havn't been in my cars

It'll be more fun when you get to race him in your cars.

I'll bet it takes all the fun out of the "sleeper" car when it gets it's doors blown off by a regular fast car. Then the guy's sitting there, staring at your taillights, wondering why he spent all that money on his civic.

I don't consider a Civic a 'sleeper'. But I was thinking the same thing- why spend ALL that money to convert a Civic to RWD when many cars are already out there that can be modded for HP that also HANDLE.

That is pretty neat, but why dump so much money to convert it to RWD?

bigev007
Man, i should do that to my celeb. lots of room in back, drop in an Ls6

So... your saying that this Civic was not only converted to RWD, but the engine may have been in the back?

Wow. That sounds like a HUGE project. I'll go with the standard silverTA2002 response on this one... Sounds cool, but I bet a slightly modded F-body would beat it AND be cheaper!

:)

I wonder how well a rear engine Civic would handle? My front engine Civic is very balanced, I would think that much weight in the back would throw things off a bit.
