View Thread: Holden's new turbocharged Astra SRi and Astra Convertible are a dynamic duo

Set for take-off this week are two of the most sophisticated high performance Holdens ever to leave the launch pad - the Astra SRi Turbo hatch and its elegant stablemate, the Astra Convertible Turbo. The availability of this dynamic duo emphasises Holden’s commitment to cap each of its passenger model ranges with exceptional performance vehicles and broaden its market reach by offering increasingly customised model choices.

Holden Astra is based on Opel Astra... and Opel Astra is FWD... so I guess Holden Astra is FWD too?

Cordoba
It's FWD, but it's a total stonka!! Just like Europe has Opel, the UK has Vauxhall, South America has Chevrolet, Australia and New Zealand has Holden. They are all the same cars but with different badges, but they are all owned by GM.

Carlos Carrera
FWD. Vauxhall sound nice....

Too bad the US gets the stiff one and has to live with the Cavalier instead.

I have read, however that the Cavalier replacement will finally be based on the same underpinnings as the Astra, much in the same way the Malibu is going for 2004, with Opel Vectra underpinnings.

The ION just lost me with that center stack Echo thing.

What was GM thinking when they released the Saturn Ion?? From some angles the the Ion Coupe doesn't look too bad, but the sedan is totally hideous!!!! I've also heard that GM will be using the the underpinnings of the next Astra for the Cavalier!! But what will GM do with the styling?? Let's hope it's not like another Malibu!! I've also heard that GM will dump the Cavalier name for something else, but I can't remember what it was?? Does anyone know??
