my girlfriends car(a mid/late 90's celica convertable) got crushed by a tree a few weeks ago. sad, because it was a fun car.

lucky for her, her uncle is a VW bigwig(some highpaying job with something or other to do with the company)
so she got to get her hands on the rare and coveted 20th anniversay GTi.

it's jazz blue. it has 18inch BBS's and it's fucking tight. very fast and it handles like a dream. it sports 312mm brakes in the front and big ole brakes in the back. she has already ordered a 28mm anti roll bar, but we havn't put it in yet. it comes with recaro's and a six speed with a nice clutch

if you don't know anything about them you should go oggle one on the net http://www.vw.com/gti/index.htm#

anyways it's a six speed, very light for a new VW(only 2800lbs)
basically it takes you back to the original GTi, and it rekindles the kind of fun you had when you drove a MKII GTi. it's just a fun car to drive. 180HP 174 lb*ft of torque(from 1950-5000RPms') it's just a blast to drive. plus it has pilot sports on it stock. they are super rare though and I don't think you are even supposed to be able to buy one yet. I will post some pics of it soon. very cool car.

Dude, I didn't even know that was out yet! Very cool. I'm on vwvortex.com and have been a fan of that car since they showcased it.

Yeah, they are still a bit porky. My buddy just got a sweet deal on a new GTI. It's got pretty good straight line performance (6.5 to sixty or so) but its kind of a pig in the curves.

Is it just me or is AJ the luckiest man alive? Luck bastard gets all these great cars for weird reasons. Congrats anyway though!

yeah I did recently inheriet a 2002 jeep grand cherrokee overland. but the 20th anniversary is my girlfreinds. I drive it plenty though.

we got to take it for a couple laps on 2nd creek raceway yesterday afternoon becuase I was in the pits and so we just got her car out there and had her do some laps. not bad, not bad at all. it does fine everywhere except the kamakazie where it showed some understeer, with that new anti-rollbar it will be even cooler

Rotary Boy
yeah, it may understeer, but it was showing off those big old brakes , it's a cool car. I hope VW can start heading back to it's roots and bring some really fun cars back to the showroom

It's not hard to lose weight, start by droppin the back seats, and go from there.

87 Supra Turbo
Wow, $34K in Canada? A nicely appointed WRX can be had for a bit less than that. This thing better handle really good for that price.

As you can tell I live in Germany, and I've seen 3 or 4 R32s, on the dealer lots and the Autobahn. Very nice cars. I like them, but I would never want one. I'm more into bigger VWs. Like that Phaeton I had, I loved it till I had to give it back up. Of course, this was a Phaeton V10 TDi test car that's not in the States *yet* but it was a blast to drive.:drive:

when are you going to chip the GTI?

ksaile
Sweet car. I've always dug GTI's just not their soft US spec spring rates lately. I think the running rabbit insignia is cool to have back on the car too. I think its a definate step in the right direction. Hopefully we'll see more.
