View Thread: Tahoe issues

Well, I was going up to Davis with a couple friends yesterday when I approached the toll booth, rolled down my window, paid the lady, and when I wanted to roll up my window, the window stopped functioning. Both sides stopped working, the fuses were fine...so I called AAA to get the closest dealer. The chevy dealer said they couldn't work on it till monday, so I decided to drop by anyway. I saw a GMC dealership, figured maybe they might be open later on Saturday...and they were. Still, he said he couldn't work on it till monday, so we lied and said we were from a city 2 hours away, etc...and we were desperate. So the guy fixed it, and said that when the window rolled down, it rubbed against the alarm's window controls, and pulled out the power connectoin.

Basically, no warranty there.

The check engine light had come on again, the 2nd time in a week...and they found out that my tranny is going to need to be replaced soon.

I'm so happy I bought the extended warranty. :humpy: I knew I was going to run into trouble as soon as I hit 40k.

So I get to have that fixed sometime soon.

If I hang on to the hoe past the extended warranty, I'm going to supercharge it and get some big brakes. I figure if I'm going to have to pay for its expenses, might as well have fun with it in the process.

If I sell it before, I'll probably buy used fun car to have for the remainder of my Berkeley living situation. (I live in the ghetto :woowoo: )

A-Tech
umm, american cars.... =\

masestylez
Thats errr. teh sux

Sia Bani
Yes, definatley "american cars." That's why I hesitate to purchase another, but it really depends on the car. I mean, I'd buy the hoe again, all over....I'm sure I haven't had nearly the number of small/large problems family members have had with their mb's and bmw's. Those are in teh shop every other week. My moms old 97 s320 got its engine replaced 4 months before the lease was up. :banghead:

A-Tech
umm, british cars... =\

masestylez
I believe a MB is German

A-Tech
i thought I read MG, whoops oh well

umm, german cars... =\

Sub Urban
Geez, why the hell do you need a new tranny already?:surprised

Sia Bani
Lotsa wear and tear from hard driving, I believe :D

Sub Urban
Yeah, but less than 40K miles?

Sia Bani
40 exactly.

Yea, I drive it hard

Sub Urban
You must have gotten a "defective" tranny.

Did you ever change the fluid?

Any signs of it going>?

Sia Bani
Dude, it's a Chevy. I know 3 other hoe/burban drivers that had to replace either their engine or tranny in under 50k. And they drive totally normal. That is why I bought the extended.

Sub Urban
Americans.

All the people I know with 'Hoes and Subs are going strong with many kilometers on the clock.

Rotary Boy
talk talk to me about tranny woes do to hard driving. my first tranny went to the big bellhousing in the sky when is decided it didn't like 375RWTQ and grenaded(literally blew up). what a fucking mess

Sia Bani
AND THE TRANNY IS FINISHED!!

I'm about to take a left onto my Aunt's street, and I press on the gas, and I go nowhere. Press harder, I start moving...about triple the amount of gas to get going....same thing till I park it.

So the tranny is finally fucked, and I'm going to take it to the dealer about 2 mins driving distance away. Hopefully I'll make it there in time.

My aunt lives about 80 miles away from Berkeley, so I got to drive her brand new 540i right now, back to berkeley to pick up my power programmer, so I can "unchip" the hoe so my tranny goes under warranty.

A bitch of a drive, but I loved it, even with the detour on the way back that put an extra 30 mins on the drive...what a solid ride, smooth, great power, awesome!

Anyone know how long it should take a Chevy dealer to replace the tranny? I'm thinking 3-4 days, so I think I'm going to have plenty of time to get to drive the 540 in the mean time while I'm stuck here in Los Gatos.

I'm going to the dealer first thing in the morning.

mrjswift
Benz is hard core German all the way.

mrjswift
Rotary Boy, any parts go throught hood? jk.

mrjswift
Sia if you do some mad talking you could get it in their and out of there in 3-5 days. But I mean mad talking, you gotta come up with some clever stuff, I had good wrench service plus and they gave me an appointment way down the charts. They saw me as a charity case because they had to fix my Cd Deck for free (under warantee), because this kid Nema, blew it up. Arg. But I bet you can get the Tahoe in there and out of there fast. :drive:

Sia Bani
Fucking psychotic Nima.

Ya, they're cool down there. I will tell them I live in Berkeley, and got stuck down here because of this...they're pretty cool at this dealer. I've had it worked on here before, in and out in 2 hours versus the usual half day, or full day.

mrjswift
Nice, sounds good. They must have multiple people workin on it. Or a super mech, that's cool either way.

Sia Bani
I'm still waiting for the tech to call me back to tell me what the official problem is, and the estimated time it would take to have it fixed.

A-Tech
btw mrjswift, 540i is a beemer ;)

Sia Bani
Fuck, I forgot to ask if they'd throw in an Allison for me! :banghead:

Sia Bani
Oh btw, I heard some CRAZY clunks today when I stepped too much on the gas. I BARELY made it to the dealer that was 2 mins away from my aunt's place. It was crazy. I had people honk at me and wonder why I was accelerating at 1mph/second..hehe.

Sia Bani
He called back and told me the transmission's "broken" and expected me to be amazed or something. Then he told me quietly that I have a 0 deductible on my warranty, so I'm good to go.

So how does this work? Do the dealerships pay for their parts and labor and Chevrolet/GM refunds them? It's not like the dealer is losing money, I'm sure..

FYRHWK1
you busted a 4L60E? 160K+ on the fleet trucks i used to drive for with more abuse then you've put yours through i'm sure (unless you've been doing neutral drops) and they're shifting like new, 40K is like half the life of the stock fluids as well. clunking i cant even begin to think what that is, no offense to you or the 3 others you know but i'm never letting any of you near my tranny, you'd turn a T-56 into a T5 overnight

Sia Bani
I never do neutral drops. That's ridiculous.

However, I probably drive the hoe harder than any other suburban or tahoe owner, but nothing stupid.

MjSwift and I just met, so we haven't been friends for too long, and he saw the way I drive. I drive it hard, but not wreckless.

The clunking...well, once the tranny was through, I drove it to the dealer that was about 1/2 a mile away. The hoe would barely move obviously, so I tried giving it slightly more gas while it was climbing a slight hill (so I don't start rolling back). Then I heard some extremely loud clunk and backed off. I decided that going 5mph was better than getting stuck on Santa Cruz Avenue at that time in the morning.

Oh, the other two people I know are 30+ year olds that think fixing up a hoe for performance is ridiculous. They DON'T drive hard, but put on a lot of miles. One had the tranny replaced at 55k, and the other at 60. The one at 55k had to replace the motor as well, because of some bolt that got loose and fucked it up.

mrjswift
Yes, Sia drives his Tahoe quite well. We weren't doing anything crazy. Just driving a little faster than the speed limit to get to our destination. And why the heck would we be doing neutral drops, that's stupid, that is sooo 11th grade man.

Sia Bani
oh hey, john...now I know why that montero kept up so well...hehe. I knew something was up!

mrjswift
A-Tech did I say a 540i isn't a beemer? hmmm :?: I hope not, heh.

mrjswift
ya, haha

But the weird thing was the Tahoe was driving perfect. It's weird that all of a sudden you have major transmission problems. Maybe at GM they have a button they can press to break people’s trannies. So they can make a premium on the insurance policies they carry or something. :P

mrjswift
Oh ya, good reason why the Montero was keepin' up, heh.

Sia Bani
Nah, it wasn't all of a sudden. About 2k miles ago, I had a "Service engine" light come on, and when I took it to the dealer for some other problem, they said that the transmission was giving errors, and that it would surely need to be replaced soon. I guess it finally just went out...but in the last week, I could tell it didn't feel the same and the acceleration was definately off a bit.

Well at least you got the extended warranty...do you get a warranty on the new one, how long?

Sia Bani
hmm...I don't know about that. I figure when my extended is up, that'll be up to. I'll check into it, it would be great if it were another 3 years, 30k on the tranny. I doubt I'll keep the hoe that long though.

Sia Bani
Check this out...(fucking GM)...they JUST got an inspector over there to take a look at the problem, ( since I'm using my warranty, and this is a major problem, they want to make sure nothing foul is giong on or whatever). So the tech tells me they want to see if it's repairable, and he said that he hopes the inspector finds it isnt and he can just throw in a new one for me.

Good thing I drove and made the sucker CLUNK a couple of times, so I could damage it beyond repair. He said monday, and I flipped out, so he said he'd try to have it by friday evening.

Good thing you threw in those few last punches to kill it!:boxer: :bigbounce
