OK this might be a stupid questions, but one thing i never learned about cars is how the gas pedal works. How does you pressing it down make the car go?.

Yes i know it's naive, but eh.. i've never really known.:nope:

Controls the flow of the air going into the intake runners.
Its like a butterfly valve that opens and close following ur gas pedal. Also in modern cars, it can control the fuel inyected (More gas pedal = more air + more fuel inyected) (Im not good expressing myself in english :D )

Yea, I was going to try to explain it, but since I might possibly be dyslexic I knew nobody would follow what I was saying easily

So is just an air + gas pump.
The pump is the vacuum, so virtually the gas pedal controls how much of the air + gas is going into the combustion chamber.

if we were on a rally team together we'd be hopelessly lost. I'd have to be the navigator, cuz i'm irish which means im too drunk to drive, yet too confused to read the map

mrgokou
ok so, tell ehy do u have to let a lil of the gas to clutch and shift? I've done it with grace, but never relized why i had to do that.

A mexican and an Irishman walk into a bar...

mrgokou
lol, wow u guys aint gonna answer the second question?

eric rxb
If you're asking why you have to let go of the gas to shit gears, its becase if the engine is moving at a higher rate than the trans, it's a pretty big shock on the trans. You can just floor it, and shit really fast, which is called powershifting, and is really only used dragging.

I got a joke: An irishman walks out of the bar. HAHAH j/k that is really stupid. But this thread is stereotype fun!

Cause when you press the clutch, the engine is running without resistance, so the flywheel is revving up while u are changin the gear, SO by the time you engage the next gear and drop the clutch the engine are in high RPM, so is more difficult to the trans to slow down the engine again. Modern Trans have synchros, that match the speed of the flywheel and trans. But again is better to lift up the gas pedal until change the gear.
