:fyi: in japan they use ps instead of hp to rate their engines. i dunno what it stands for but one ps equals .986 of 1 horsepower.

masestylez
yehp, you got it.

lexus1581
also if anyone was wondering 100 kmh(kilometers per hour) equals 62 mph.

Yeah, so that means there's no excuse for you Americans to drive down our highways at 100mph. It's 100kph. Awww, who am I kidding, we always do 100mph on our highways.:drive:

kW = hp x (0.7457 kW/hp) / (motor efficiency)

mrgokou
hrmm... ok

lexus1581
i think 1 hp equals 1.34 kw

mrgokou
that is correct.

2.2 lb/KG, 61.1 CI in a liter and 25.4 mm/inch, memorized all this junk from class the other day, now only a billion more, the US needs to get the damn metric system.

lexus1581
1 liter= 61 cubic inches right?

i agree why does the US hafta be the only country without the metric system??

masestylez
HEY. United Arab Emerits uses our system as well.

Ferryman
The funny thing about PS is that its derived from the german measurement Pfunde Stark.
Which literally translated is Horse Power. One could make an argument that german horses are stronger than english ones hence the disparity.

Its all about pride, I honestly dont care if its metric or standard just pick ONE and stick to it, the metric system is getting more & more use though, maybe one day when the entire world isn't trying to blame the US for all of their problems the switch could happen.

Metric is 1000x easier to deal with. We're doing thermal resistivity right now in physics and the goddamn imperial unit is square feet*degrees farhenheit*hour/british thermal unit!!!

God how useless is that! At least the metric unit makes some fuckin sense! W/m^2K

Rate of power per area per degree kelvin.

That and being in base ten gives you really good scientific notation conversions.

FYRHWK1
oh yeah, of course, a 10 based system is just simpler then a 12 there's no doubt about that, but i'd be happy with just 1 system period, preferrably metric.

911GT2
I'm all for a one unit system, but I refuse to learn backasswards imperial. It'd be so much easier for you guys to fully learn and use metric.

Heres another bit of information not a lot of people might know. Hemi is named for the motor: HEMIspherical Combustion Chamber. Also, the in the WRX STi, the STi stands for Subaru Technica International which is some sort of subaru tuner. Thought i just drop in a little information for those who want to learn.

eric rxb
STi is the in house Subaru tuner, like AMG for MB, M for BMW, and quattro GmbH
