Interesting article in Grassroots Motorsports (btw RB, thanks for the tip, good magazine, just got my first issue)

They must have been drinking on the job when they came up with this one.

1967 Jaguar XKE
vs
1965 Porsche356C
vs
2003 Honda Odyssey EX

:dizzy:

I'm sorry what? Yes, after you read it again, you'll see it is indeed a stock V6 minivan vs two classic sports cars. The battle field - an autocross course.

I'm not going to type out the whole article, but basically the authors boss got a new minivan and kept going on about how quick it was. So they decided to load it up and take it to the track vs some classic contenders.

The first round came out like this:
Porsche - 49.89 seconds
Jaguar - 51.54 seconds
Honda - 49.09 seconds

They then added some 17 inch Michelins (nothing fancy) and the minivan dominated the other two with a time of 45.91 seconds. :dizzy:

Pretty interesting article. They have some nice introspective talk about how technology has increased to the point where even a mundane minivan is a fairly capable competitor. But of course, they don't go as far as to say it's better than the classics. There are certain elements of a sports car that can't be duplicated by technology. I agree :D

I think it'd still take the two other cars. :)

Yeeeaahhh....most of us would

I already got mine

wanna hear how it went
(if not stop reading)

viper won, but only becuase the laminar viking blew up, mani came in third and the skyline was awesome, very clsoe battle for 1,2, and three.

it was a good read.

masestylez
The Viper one? Oh thats too bad. :(

eric
I figured that's what would have happened. Kinda sucks the SRX-7 blew up. That was a really cool car, but they kinda hinted that it wouldnt last that long in the previous issue.

masestylez
Last years competition was definetly better.

I haven't gotten a chance to get into it too much yet. No word on the $2003 really, although 100 race teams have signed up already. I think that is such a cool freakin contest! What would you do for it Eric?

eric
the $200X challenges always seem a little unfair because people seem to be able to find cars that are worth alot more than $200X dollars to use.

dodge omni, or maybe a merkur, maybe a cheap ass bimmer.

but really, if you want to totally cheap out on a project car(talking about hardcore penny pinching) and still have it fast an omni is hard to beat

bam! csx swap and alittle bit of elbow grease and that will run in the 13's, KYB AGX's and it will handle well. strip as much wieght from the car as possible and there you go.

eric
I wish i knew that those acronyms meant

masestylez

the CSX is what you get when you turbocharge the classic childrens tale of the ugly duckling. the other was shocks and struts, for making the little frankenstien car perfrom well in the cones.

I may sound odd here, but how about a Tercel?

A suspension package on my Terce would make it handle well if not fast. The damn thing only weighs 2K lbs even.
