Anyone watching it right now? Pretty interesting. Don Johnson is selling his 1970 Cuda from Nash Bridges.

mustangdriver
Good lord! It wasn't even a Hemi and it has set the record for today with $137,500!

They said it's a $30,000 car at most.

masestylez
What is Barrett Jackson? That is a DAMN high price too. Nash Bridges wasn't THAT cool. Haha

mustangdriver
It's the annual high dollar automotive auction in Scottsdale, AZ

It's on Speed Channel right now - 5 hours worth!

Rotary Boy
yep I am watching it, it was on last night too.

they had a numbers matching 440 AAR Cuda with under 25K miles on it, orginal paint and tires even, and it was in amazing shape. wow.

masestylez
Goddamn cable over satellite decision, grrrr

87 Supra Turbo
Wow, they just sold the MkIII GT40 for $295,000. Lets see if that Jag will fetch the estimated 1,000,000 :surprised

87 Supra Turbo
Ooooooooh F40!!!! :humpy: :humpy:

Aww, $342,500. Almost met the $400,000 reserve.

87 Supra Turbo
Woot, the XK-SS is up next. Seems like a tough day for the really expensive cars, wonder if it will sell?

87 Supra Turbo
Bah, $950,000 was the high bid, too bad the owner wouldn't come down from $1.3M

911GT2
Horrible time to be selling classics with the economy so bad.

masestylez
They have classic car auctions here, like 300 cars a year. I've been to all of them the past 5 years, and maybe 3 or 4 have sold. The owners around here are such hardasses, it makes for crappy auctions.

oh, ive had it twice, they keep teasing me, :banghead: :banghead:

first, when i went to Georgia Tech my freshman year, I had it for like 2 months, i was addicted to it and then, bam, they take it away, then when i come home last summer, i'm pleasantly surprised to find it on my TV at home and then 3 weeks later, Time Wanker changes there TV lineup and its gone and I now get HGTV where it used to be. Their lucky I haven't strangled their serviceman by now, :banghead: :sombrio:

masestylez
We have it on digital cable but its one of the only 2 channels you can't ala carte or whatever thats called, and Digi Cable is 50$ more than normal, and i'm already paying for Cable Internet....

Wow your cable co is :humpy: :humpy: :humpy: you all the way to the bank man. Up here digital cable and cable internet is CHEAPER!!!! than regular cable and cable internet. You should move up here, sure the winters tend to be a bit http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/natur/natur12.gif but other than that it's not too bad.

masestylez
That pisses me off, I(yes me) pay 40$ a month for cable+net because of this special deal I got and i called to upgrade and they said it would be 50$ extra for a buncha channels. I might just buy a descrambler and knock my service down to net and the first 20 channels, call it good there. It's cold here, I couldn't imagine 200 miles north. I'm a tropical person. :D Plus your money isn't worth as much.

masestylez

The 5 and 10 are the new designs. The bigger ones are supposed to be out soon.

It's very hard.

I used to work in retail and there's alot of things you can do to find out if it's real at a glance.

Unfortunately i forget those...

masestylez
Oh damn, there goes my new money making scheme. :( Are those black boxes in the corners with the denomination number stickers/markings or just black ink?

87 Supra Turbo
Look for the blue dots
make sure the wavey lines on the older ones (20's 50's etc) are made up of the denomination
Supposedly those small numbers don't scan properly
The foil piece is two colors and can't come off
The corners by the foil are plasticy
I think the big numbers and something else are slightly raised

On the new ones the front side (with the face of laurier and macdonald) has gold holographic maple leaves and braille(sp?) near the number, as well as a plasticy texture in the corners.

I too was also a retail whore at one time. There are other security features but I can't remember what they are.

The black boxes are color changing foil. Very hard to duplicate. Apparently Canadian currency is one of the hardest in the world to counterfeit. Bested only by Austrailia's plastic paper money. If only the government would commission the Royal Canadian Mint to make our passports we'd have less "evil doers" faking our identities.

masestylez
That's insanity, I thought that the UK's money was the hardest to duplicate. But i'm a little behind on that.

87 Supra Turbo
I was pretty close with most of them; here are some facts from a CBC news story on counterfeit bills.

Old Bills

The metallic patch changes from green to gold when tilted. It cannot be peeled off.
Green dots appear randomly on each bill. They glow under UV light and can be scratched off.
The fine detail in the eyes and hair can't be easily duplicated.
The texture of the raised ink can be felt with your fingers.
The words "Bank of Canada" appear in microprinting in various places on the bill.
The special bank note paper does not glow under UV light.
The colours used in the bill are difficult to reproduce.
Each bill has a unique serial number on the reverse side. A batch of fake bills may all have the same serial number.

New Bills

A glowing blue Canadian coat of arms and red security fibres appear when viewed under UV light.
A hidden number 10 can be seen here when the bill is viewed along its edge.
The golden maple leaves shimmer when the bill is tilted. Link (http://cbc.ca/news/indepth/background/counterfeit.html)
