i was goin to school, and since im in the market for a car, i was lookin at the cars on my street, lo and behold, next door to me there is a Nissan NX 2000......dents here and there and on the front bumper, the bottom part has been taken off, but its all easily replaaceable.....2 snags.......the blue book i just got is a little pricey, and i dont know if theyre willing to part, but the way this woman drives, if she waits another month, she wont have a nice car anyway.....
heres the blue book stuff:

sr20........turbo is a bolt on......could turn into one shocker while staying economical at the same time.....

FabUlous
come again?

Sia Bani
he's saying put on the sr20 turbo

k6kicker
it comes with a n/a sr20....same egine, long with the 8.5 compression as the turbo....the reason it is taken off for the states is emissions

FabUlous
hm.........thats a nice idea

FabUlous
anyone got any other ideas on what i can do?

keep looking, an automatic 2.0 litre doesn't sound good to me. Unless you really want a Nissan NX, there are alot better cars that can be had for 4.5K

FabUlous
yeah my main impulse was that its NEXT DOOR.........since the parents arent helpin with the monetary situation im kinda in a bind...i mean around here the main kind of car you can do stuff too is a honda.....not what i had in mind at all

what i want is something i can put a lot of time and effort in...basically a project car but that can function as a daily driver, but im no gearhead by any means so it needs to be decent to start with too.....

i also wanna beat these damn ricers here.........theyre invading!!!
stupid 190 hp civics, and :ghey: focuses.....i want a coche!

Dreamn
stay on the lookout for 240SX's, much better cars IMO

mustangdriver
Dreamn said what I was about to say.

The 240 has more power (I think) and is RWD. Great cars. And if you end up with some money to mod it - the sky is the limit.

I know what you mean about convenience. That's the only reason I'm considering this RX-7, because it's at work. I would have never gone looking for it.

FabUlous
yeah its so damn tempting.....i walk outside and its less than 3 feet from me.... son of a bitch!!

question: what kind of car could i have some fun with modding that i could pay around 2 grand for?

80's Camaro, can anyone think of anything else, :drive:

5.0 Mustang

mustangdriver
Yeah, 5.0 would be cheap.

An early 90's 240SX can be had for less than $2000. You can do what SCC magazine did and get a 1990 with a blown engine for $800. Then add the SR20DET engine which you can buy pretty readily and swap it in. Or pay someone to swap it in. You will have a pretty sweet car for a few grand if it all works out. And if you blow it up, oh well :D

Also, I've seen late 80s, early 90s Miata's cheap as hell (couple grand) with a bunch of miles.

You can buy all the crap on this page:

http://www.racingbeat.com/90products.htm

For like $3500 and that's with some of the cool aero body pieces and roll hoops. You would have a sweet ass car after that. An autocross monster :D That project Miata there was used to set MotorTrend Magazine's all-time slalom record. :dizzy:

Not bad for about $5K total. Plus labor of course :)

a 240sx is a bad ass car, great nissan ride quality too.

I guess I'll be the minority here with this but here it goes. The NX2000 is a way underated car. My mom had a '93 that she bought new. 0-60 was reported at 6.9, I can't remember the quarter mile times, but it could tap out just shy of 140mph. It literally eats the 240sx for lunch in all aspects of performance. The NX2000 is essentially a Sentra SE-R with a different body. The engine has 140 horses and the car is very light. They came with a limited slip diff. It was either Car and Driver or Road and Track that named it one of the 10 best handling cars in the world. It was the only front driver in the list. I had raced and beaten, Eclipse and Talon turbos every time with it. I personally had it up to 135 and it was pretty stable. I really don't like FWD, but this car really did handle great. Very little body roll and a fairly nuetral cornering attitude that was fun. Plus you could get them in TTops. $4,500 is pretty pricey. I've seen them for $2,500-$3,500 in good shape. I think the auto would wreck the snick snick, go cart like feeling of this car though. I do highy recomend it though. Take one for a drive. The power band as the tach climbs to redline at 7,500 is addictive!

FabUlous
<--off on a mission to find a nice nissan nx 2000 :fro:

masestylez
I wanted an NX2000 really bad when I was 14, I still would like one but they go for such high prices here, like upwards of 6k. I don't know why.

FabUlous
its sick, sx's and nx's are like 2 or 3 here and the only catch is 350 mi away!!!
fuckin a man

scubie02
The price seems a LITTLE high given the mileage and year and such, but who knows, maybe thats what they go for. I think they were fairly decent little cars though, and it'd be a sleeper because most people wouldn't really know what it was. I like that, myself. Believe it or not, you'd be surprised at how many people don't have any idea about my wrx or how fast it is. I especially like that cops don't seem to give you a second glance, although thats starting to change a LITTLE. (I had a trooper come around a corner a ways off, and as he got closer and I think saw my car clearly he hit me with the radar--I think he was thinking "wrx, wonder how fast this guy's going...")

But anyway--another cheap project car would be the DSM's, particularly the awd ones for my preference. Huge aftermarket and easy to mod damn fast for not much money. Not as much of a sleeper for anyone who knows much about cars (they will be suspicious anyway) though as they're more common than the Nissan, at least where I am.

Mr.Dave
Not meaning to sound pessimistic, but if you do get an older car would you have time for school and upkeep on it? That's something I'd consider, but if the answer is yes, go for it! :drive:

FabUlous
well i cant afford a newer car, and something older is cheaper...why not?

im not poor

Mr.Dave
I know this much is true... but you're saying the way this woman drives she might not have it for very long. I would question if the brakes, transmittion, and all that other stuff would be replaced.

FabUlous
yeah im not gonna get it from her cuz shes a hardcore bitch as well....but im just gonna look around here for something like an nx sx, or an early 90's celica......they are pretty common around here, its just that theyre all manual and i havent gotten around to learnin to drive ye olde stick....kind of tough when your entire family drives auto cept your uncle who drives a bmw

Mr.Dave
do any of your friends drive stick? I can count one hand how many of my friends drive stick

FabUlous
uhh......maybe 3?

masestylez
0 except RFC boy, and we're not that friendly right now.
