View Thread: Favorite Compact

i've got to say my favorite compact is the S3. I really love that ride.

DominibeanS4
Yeah, the S3 is definitely a nice choice. Also, the VW R32 is tight. They should bring both over to the US. As far as ones that are available in the US. Probably the GTI 337. Throw on a Stage 3 kit from APR and you'd be running a 12.6 1/4 mile. Pretty quick if you ask me.

Enigma
Yeah right

nothing comes close to my favourite badass compact the Golf R32

:bootyshak to all da others

SupraTTmkiv
My favorite compact would have to be either the VW Golf R32 or the new WRX Sti...They are both tight cars! The R32 is a little bit slow, but the style and interior make up for it IMHO.

I like the S3, just wish they'd bring it to the US. The WRX is also very nice as is the MazdaSpeed Protege.

SLP Addict
Im gonna have to go with the STi

mustangdriver
It's hard for me to think of a 4 door as a compact, even though I realize in terms of dimensions they definitely are. I am a big fan of the GTI, the one I drove recenly was pretty impressive. I also got a chance to drive a STV Focus right as it came out. Not too bad, needs some more straight line grunt. It handled well. I'm still happy with where my car stacks up in the compact field. Not counting the uber-4 doors like the STi or EVO, the Prelude is still as quick as most of the sport compacts.

A-Tech
r32 all the way. it looks so damn nice.

911GT2
BMW M3!!!

Hey, it's still compact....

But in the collection of regular compacts, I really like the idea of the Mazdaspeed Protege. Or the WRX.

Rotary Boy
c32AMG all the way, it's smaller than a civic(shorter in length and hieght) and can run away from any car mentioned here so far. it's light, RWD and is probably handles pretty well.

A-Tech
miata, or 1st gen rx7, or a 944 turbo.... i love those three cars, they are on my dream car list.

I was thinking more of new cars, but a 944 Turbo is very high on my list of attainable dream cars, probably on top.

SLP Addict
How much would a 944turbo cost?

It varies very very widely. But for a good example, expect to pay 15-20K CDN. Less, sub-12K for a really nice N/A.

Since I take this to mean compact cars, and not sports cars or coupes, I'm going with the new Mini Cooper S. Supercharged engine, and ungodly handling for any car, front, rear, or all wheel drive.

Couldn't agree more. The S is in my class in AutoX and the first guy with one in our area hasn't lost since he started entering it. That sucker is like a go-kart!

RSXDriver
Compacts also means subcompacts, correct?

My favorite is the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6.

Of course, me li'l RSX is right up there too, or else I wouldn't have bought it.

But whenever I see a WS6, boy, does my head turn! :green:

mustangdriver
I figure as long as it fits in one of those "compact only" spots, it's a compact :green:

The WS6 is a beast, the black one in my garage at work just looks mean.

RSXDriver
Yeah, quite the beast! I do love 'em in black. That pewter isn't too bad either.

There's this orangey-looking one running around here... I don't like it, other than the fact that it's a WS6.

Have you ever been able to tell that I like WS6's?

:green:

mustangdriver
What the hell is a WS6? Who are you? Where am I?

RSXDriver
Wake up! It's all a bad dream! You actually drive a black Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6. The blue Prelude you drive in your dream, well, that's a dream.

A-Tech
I want any f body. except for one with a v6 in it.

Ive driven the Cooper S... that thing has no balls in terms of acceleration, but it can handle... omg, I couldnt feel any body roll.

RSXDriver
I favor the Pontiac F Body with 320 HP and those nostrils on its hood.

my favorite sport compact is the 240SX (Silvia). The Silvia is balanced, relatively light, and the SR20 has great potentials, even the KA24 can be turboed and make some decent power. follow close to the Silvia is a CRX or a Civic H/B, they are light, engines can be relatively swapped, the only weakness is they are fwd.

mustangdriver
I'd love to get an older 240SX and swap in the Japan spec turbo engine from the Silvia. Looks like a fun project. Now I just have to learn something about mechanics!

Apple_Jacks
best compact?
FWD goes to the ITR, it just kicks that much ass.handling is awesome, it's one of the better AutoX cars ever made

RWD goes to the C32AMG or the 1st gen rx-7, they both kick ass, but in their own different ways.

mustangdriver
My neighbor just bought a 1985 RX-7 for $1700 and is going to make it a project car. Hardly any rust, great paint, no body damage. Great looking car. One owner too! I can't wait to help him.

k6kicker
I can't pick a favorite but i think you guys are overlooking one of the very dominate 90's compacts....the dsm :)

Some decent power....I have seen 400 horsepower ka's running around the streets, those little bitches are torque monsters with a little boost:)

gtipower
GTI 1.8t or VR6 and M3

!!!TED!!!
:pimp:

SLP Addict
Ted, you shame me with that post, and if f-bodys are allowed then yea id take either a formula or a WS6. And if he payed 1700, he payed way to much for hte 1st gen, i no a guy selling a 13-14 second rx7 wtih a 13b and perfect body, for 1100.

masestylez
Why are all the cheap RX-7s in Texas? grrr

SLP Addict
cause we have all the best cars bitch boy!, this is where a nice car like that should be, no snow!

Cordoba

Dodge SRT-4. The bang for the buck just can't be beat.

Run-GSX
RX7 , all gens. DSM 1G. Supra Mk3 - 4. 240 - 280 Z. Those are my favorites. Don't see any new cars in there , do we.......:finger:

Apple_Jacks
Rx-7s are small, but they really arn't sport compacts, and supras are tubby mothers.
DSMs on the other hand are the shit. as are ITR's, and civics with ITR supercharged ITR motors

You might have to argue with Rotary Boy about the RX7's:tongue: I stood next to a 93 I was looking at today. They have the odd effect of looking bigger farther away , than they are up close. My Galant is HUGE by comparison , and its considered a compact. If you wanna talk about small in terms of compacts , then the 1st gen CRX and the Del-Sol and the 72 Honda (civic?) would prolly be considered the ultimate. I saw a 72 Honda hatch today , just down the street from the RX7. I think if I would have stretched out on the street next to it , I would be taller than that car is long......:smoke:

Apple_Jacks
I mean Rb flipps out when people call his RX-7 a sport compact, it's a sports car in the truest since of the word(except for my 930 of course)

Run-GSX
I like 930's , that design in particular. If I was gonna own a Porsche , it would be that , or a 928. I like the small , ball-rattling V8 in those cars.....
I see what you mean about sport compacts. The whole thing has a bad name. Sports car is better , but is a much WIDER catagory , IMO , and includes cars of various sizes.

Apple_Jacks
I sold a 928 GT-S for my 930S

if you are a 930 fan check out the thread, "hot black sex machine" or somthing like that. thats in one of the first pages of the members rides forum, it's from a while bak, but it's got some good pics of my baby

Apple_Jacks
I saw a red talon today with a FP green turbo and a built 1G motor(2G talon with 1G motor swap) it was making enough power for the mid 11's. very cool car.
