View Thread: extreme/biodiesel question

Mr.Dave
My apologies for not posting for a while... but I've definately been on here and other places checking out the forums: From RSXDrivers constant post whoring everywhere, SLP's hilarious dialouge, and K6Kicker's stories about the ladies. I've been throughly entertained and even learned some shit about cars. But now I have about 2 questions of my own...

#1st: In November I bought a 2001 VW Golf GL TDI. Love the car! I've never felt more safe or comfortable driving before I had it. Over the past few months I've been checking out biodiesel... which I think is going to be "the wave of the future". With all of Bush's policies of letting cruder gasoline and oil come to the US, there will be a time when fossil fuels run low and we'll have to turn to alternative fuel sources. There have also been several sites dedicated to showing how to make biodiesel. Question being: Has anyone here ever made, or know someone who makes biodiesel? I am a definate car enthusist (sic), but am no chemist. Plus, I would like to start making my own fuel if it's worth the time and effort.

#2: How many posts would I need to make to become an extreme member? I'd like to be one someday soon!

Y'all have a great day :pimp:

k6kicker
i would definitly try with a beater first not a new tdi, but it can be really danerous amking the stuffbut if you have a car you wouldnt mind destorying by all means give it a chance:tahoe:

SLP Addict
go out and buy a geo metro, and try it on that, dont fuck up your great car that you have now.

Arthur Dent
he'd need an old diesel car - like an old diesel Jetta or Rabbit. There was even a diesel Chevette if you could find one.

Not sure if I'd want to be making my own fuel ...

SLP Addict
if he's succesfull at it, i dont see why not, save his ass alot of money, and prolly be able to make his fuel according to his own car to get better performance.

Rotary Boy
go find an old diesel dasher.

Mr.Dave
I've heard they're better on the new ones though... 96 and up. http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel.html <---- that's one of the many sites I've found recipes. Do you think is viable? I certainly don't wanna fuck up my new car, but if fuel could be made cheaper and better yet, greater for the environment.... I dunno. haha, I don't know a lot of things, just wanna see if anyone knows more about it than what i've read.

Oh, and what do i have to do to be an extreme member?

Thanks

Nope. Remember, whatever you think you can use, must be combustable. It has to create enough energy per combustion to move a 2500lb+ car. That's why gas is still and will continually be used for another 50 years - it's cheap and extremely powerful.

This is kinda off topic, but how long do you think we'll be using gas until we switch to another form of fuel? The way things are going in the middle east (and have been for many years) couldn't the US make an alternative sort of fuel to profit us and not send money overseas? I'm as conservative as the next guy... and I'm okay with, but don't really like people driving around huge SUVs and gas-guzzing cars by themselves (but this subject has been talked about and bullshitted so many times I won't get into it.)

Gas is inexpensive now... but when the time comes I'd rather slowly phase out gasoline and bring in the alternative fuel than have something to the affect of the gas crisis in the 1970s.

I hope I'm not offending anybody. I have a lot of run on sentences, I know. But I just wonder exactly when gas is going to run low and enviormental people will heat up.

First, I would just like to answer everything, I'm not attacking, I'm just trying to enlighten your mind.

Easily we will use gasoline for 50+ years. Even if we do switch to an alternate source, 90% of the world couldn't afford to buy a new car. That's why it's a crawl to change the power source. You must also undersatnd coorperations. The big oil companies are lobbying against another fuel source cause if they don't, they start loosing money. It's not about the environment, it's about Money. Everything is.

Secondly, even if we did have a gas crunch - right now - would you stop driving you car if a gallon cost $2.50 - nope. So regardless of a person driving a SUV, you're just as guilty cause your demand is to get to work and/ or school and with that demand, you'll pay whatever price. Would you, could you take the bus everywhere and be happy? Most people own an automobile because it provides them a freedom, the very foundation American lives on - individualism. Have you ever taken that away from yourself? It's too hard for many, many people to accept humility.

Gas is inexpensive now... but when the time comes I'd rather slowly phase out gasoline and bring in the alternative fuel than have something to the affect of the gas crisis in the 1970s.

Well, that's what will happen. We wont be using petrol one day then hydrogen the next. It's impossible. Once a major, acceptable, efficient and costly alternate source comes along, it will take years and years for it to grow to the majority. Even then gasoline will be widely used in the poorer countries - again because they can't afford the new source.

I hope I'm not offending anybody. I have a lot of run on sentences, I know. But I just wonder exactly when gas is going to run low and enviormental people will heat up.

Lastly, when do you think we'll run out of gas? I work for the largest Oil, Gas and Chemical Engineering company in the world and we have tons of work. The per barrel a day refineries were building shows an abundant amount of oil products for 50-100 years from now. Yes, eventually we'll run out of fuels, but that's why were working on alternate soucres cause eventually we'll run out. You know Alaska has an Elk territory oil surplus that would be the largest oil drilling project possibly in the world. Environmentalist are lobbying to stop the potential drilling of this surplus. With Bush in office AND the potential for war, how long do you think the environmentalists will be able to hold off the oil companies? The Govenrment is Money and money rules the world. Imagine all the tax and party donation money would come from Oil companies.

Mr.Dave
Thanks... sometimes I get in these websites and think the world's gonna change tomorrow. But, money does make the world go round, absolutely. And it keeps us from curing diseases, space exploration, and other such things. I just get on these rants sometime and have my head so far up my ass I can't pull it out to see that someone's name is on my underwear...

"That's your name isn't it? Calvin Klein, it's written all over your underwear."

Sorry about that, just an obscure reference to Back to the Future. :fro:

Cool and Mr. Dave, I hope you took my post positive and not an attack. I don't do that, I just get wordy when I talk about what you describe as "the worlds gonna change tomorrow" cause it's not. Especially when it comes to who's running the world. That who is who has the money.

By your reply it seems like you took everything ok, just wanted to make sure.

Mr.Dave
Absolutely, thanks buddy!
