View Thread: A/C question

When I turn on my A/C(in the 79 Trans Am), it squeaks really bad, but still blows cold air. I replaced the belt today(which was awful to replace, I'd rather pay some one to take it off and put and new one on than do it myself EVER again), now it squeaks less but still very annoying and loud....any ideas what is making it squeak?
Thanks in advance :)

Mouse in the ducts? :p

Other than the belt, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Maybe there could actually be something stuck in the AC ducts, but I'm not sure it would squeak because of that.:?:

Try making the belt tighter. it could be that the tensioner is loose, and the belt still slips a little when its cold.

Actually when I was a wee one, my dad had a Stanza wagon with the faces broken off a vent and I guess I stuck a french fry in there a mouse went in to get it and got stuff and died. Smelt real dad I guess. Haha.

That's what I was thinking TURBOZ

<Dads Answer>, He said that the air conditioning clutch could be going bad? He also wants to no if its just the A/C on that belt, or is there the alternator on that belt also, because of the beerings on it.

yeah could be a pulley or maybe some oil on the pulley causing it to slip.

probaby it, becuase if you replaced it and it still is a sqeekin' then you might hav an oil leak happening on the belt. somthing to look for. and yeah changing the belts on second gen F-body is crappy, especially if you have alot of road grime under the hood.

good to know my guesses are along the right line of thinking =)
